Child safety standards
Kiekie has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Kiekie is the family photo app from Terence Hinrichsen (trading as Kiekie), South Africa.
A private, invite-only family app
Kiekie is private. You join a family only when someone already in it shares an invite with you. Photos and emoji reactions are visible only to the people in that family. There is no public feed, and there is no way to browse other families.
Kiekie is for people aged 13 and over. It is not for children under 13 on their own. There are no separate child profiles.
What is not allowed
Do not use Kiekie for any of the following:
- Posting, requesting, or sharing child sexual abuse material, or any sexual content involving anyone under 18.
- Sexually exploiting a child, including grooming, solicitation, or sexual extortion.
- Threatening to share sexual content of a child.
- Posting anything unlawful, or anything that harms, harasses, threatens, or bullies anyone.
- Posting sexual content of an adult without their consent.
- Sharing someone’s private information without their permission, or pretending to be someone else.
How to report
In the app, open the photo, tap More (the three dots), and choose “Report this photo”. You can report someone else’s photo in your family. You cannot report your own.
Choose a reason: Not appropriate, Not someone in our family, or Something else. For Something else you can add a short note, up to 200 characters. Then tap Report.
That sends the report to a person at Kiekie. The report names the photo, the family, the reason, and any note. It does not include your name or the email address you sign in with, and the person who posted the photo is not told that it was you. The photo is hidden for you straight away. The rest of your family can still see it until a person has reviewed the report.
If you cannot report it in the app, or the concern is not a photo you can open, email hello@kiekie.online. That address is the child safety contact. Write from the email you sign in with when you can, and say which family and which day, so we can find the photo. Do not attach the image if it may be sexual content of a child.
What we do with a report
A person reviews every report. We act on every report within 24 hours. Nothing is removed by itself.
If the photo breaks these standards, we remove it, including the smaller copy stored with it and the emoji reactions on it.
If someone posts child sexual abuse material, sexually exploits a child, or otherwise posts serious abuse, we delete their Kiekie account. That removes their profile, their photos, and the other data tied to that account.
If a report does not break these standards, we close it and leave the photo in place.
Reporting to authorities
When we confirm child sexual abuse material, we report it to the relevant regional and national authorities. Where it applies, that includes the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). In South Africa it includes the South African Police Service and the Film and Publication Board.
Child safety laws
We comply with the child safety laws that apply to Kiekie, including the laws of South Africa and the laws that apply where our members live.
Contact
The designated child safety contact is hello@kiekie.online. A person reads it.
