Delete your Kiekie account
Kiekie is the family photo app from Terence Hinrichsen (trading as Kiekie), South Africa. This page is how you ask us to delete your Kiekie account, including if you no longer have the app installed.
How to ask
Email hello@kiekie.online from the email address you sign in with. Use the subject Delete my Kiekie account.
We use that address to find the account, so the message has to come from the same one. If you cannot use that address, say so in the email and we will ask for another way to confirm it is you.
If you still have the app, you can also delete the account there: Settings, then “Delete my account”. That runs straight away. Export first if you want a copy: Settings, “Export my photos and data”.
What we delete
Deleting the account removes the data tied to you:
- Your profile: the name you chose, and the email address you sign in with.
- Photos you posted, including the smaller copies stored with them, and the emoji reactions on those photos.
- Emoji reactions you left on anyone else’s photos.
- Your family memberships. We remove you from each family. If you organise a family and other people remain, the longest-standing member takes that role. If you are the last member, that family is deleted too, including its invite links.
- Your time zone and waking hours, the record that you accepted the terms, and the push tokens used for the daily prompt on this account.
- Records of daily prompts sent to this account.
- Photos you hid, family members you hid, and the record on anyone else’s account that they had hidden you.
- Sign-in codes for your address, and the short-lived counter that limits how often that address can ask for a code.
- Reports about photos you posted.
What we may keep
Nothing that identifies you, beyond what the law requires us to keep. Backups of deleted data are purged within 30 days.
A few records stay that cannot be turned back into your name, email, or account:
- A deletion marker that is only a keyed hash. It is removed after 35 days.
- If you reported someone else’s photo, that report stays until it expires, 90 days after you sent it. It does not contain your name, email, or account, and the person who reviews it cannot tell who sent it. It is about their photo.
- If you were the last member of a family, a marker that the family was deleted stays so that family cannot be recreated. It holds no personal information.
- Ordinary server logs and anonymous error reports are not linked to your account. They are cleared within 30 days.
How long it takes
We complete the deletion within 30 days of your email. When it is done, we send a confirmation email to the address you wrote from.
