Draft summary. This page is the short version for kiekie.online. It is not the approved legal policy. The full draft, still marked draft, is served with the web app.

Privacy

Kiekie is a private place for your family to share one photo a day. Only your family sees your photos. Kiekie is run by Terence Hinrichsen (trading as Kiekie), South Africa, who is the responsible party under POPIA and the controller under the GDPR.

Privacy and support email: privacy@kiekie.online. The full draft policy still shows a placeholder address until that draft is updated to this one. Write here anyway; the mailbox is the contact we will use.

The short version

Where your data is kept

Photos and family data are stored by Google Firebase in Johannesburg (region africa-south1). A few services that deliver sign-in email, push notifications, or sign-in identity work outside South Africa. The full draft names each of them. Where data leaves South Africa, Kiekie relies on POPIA section 72.

Your rights

You can see your data, ask us to correct it, delete it, or object. You can also complain to the Information Regulator in South Africa (inforeg.org.za), to your local authority in the EU, or to the ICO in the UK. We aim to reply within 30 days.

Delete your account

In the app, open Settings and choose “Delete my account”. That deletes the account and its photos. If you would rather we do it, email privacy@kiekie.online from the address you sign in with. Export first if you want a copy: Settings, “Export my photos and data”.

The full draft explains this in its “Your rights” section: kiekie-za.web.app/privacy.

Children

Kiekie is for people aged 13 and over. It is not for children under 13 on their own.

The full draft

The source text is docs/legal/privacy.md in the Kiekie project. Until it is approved, rely on it as a draft, not as a finished policy. Read the full draft privacy policy. The terms draft is on the same site.
